I have a query with regard to printing templates from Templot. I currently print in A4 then marry the sheets together, no problems there. However, I am considering buying an A3 printer. Is there a way that I can then print onto A3 paper and get all of a turnout on such paper. Kind Regards, Brian Wood. |

Maybe. Depends on the Turnout/scale of course. 0 Gauge A6 on Super A3 will fit, anything much bigger will need 2 sheets. You could of course go for an A3 printer that will print on roll paper if that's an issue. |

Hi Brian, Yes, Templot prints to whatever paper size you have set on the printer. If you set the printer to print A3 size, that will be the size of the pages from Templot. They will fit together by trimming the red lines in exactly the same way as the A4 pages. Whether a single turnout will fit within A3 depends on the size of the turnout of course. The printable length of A3 is about 400mm on most printers. In 4mm/ft scale that will fit up to about a C-10 turnout; in 7mm/ft scale only short industrial turnouts will fit. In 2mm/ft scale you can get quite a lot of trackwork on a single sheet of A3. If you are printing a single turnout template rather than one which is part of a track plan, you may be able to make it fit the paper by setting it diagonally across the page, like this: scanned_printout1.gif regards, Martin. |

Hi Brian I have been using an A3 printer to print out Templot plans for years. If you want to print out an individual template, this will obviously only work if it is smaller than A3 but the ability to move the print origin point helps here. To print larger sections of my layout I do a multiple page prints and glue them together using a straight edge along the “XY” lines which are also printed to ensure accuracy. This can also be done with an A4 print but A3 is less work and gives less opportunity for error. Regards Brian O’Donovan |
