Just a thought, and posted here following an email exchange with Martin, but since the backspace key can be used to access recent commands, in many instances it would be useful to use the empty triangle symbol to toggle between related commands, so that if F9 is selected for a half diamond, then clicking on the triangle will toggle to the F10 functionality, and vice-versa. If you have a transition curve, then clicking on the triangle when adjusting the radius (F6) toggles between the first and second radii, so you can see what I mean if it is not clear. In a similar vein, I would find it useful to be able to toggle between setting the start point of a transition curve, and setting the length of the transition. Martin thinks the basic idea has merit, so I wondered if it might be useful to open up the topic for further suggestions of paired (or triplicated, maybe?) functions that could use the empty triangle. |

I like Simon's suggestion to add more toggle options to the mouse action symbol: 2_250554_310000000.png At present clicking this symbol while using a mouse action does this: 1. For F6 curving adjustments on a transition curve template, toggle between adjusting the 1st or 2nd radius. (Equivalent to the - and = keyboard shortcuts.) 2. For mouse action adjustments to the ruler tool, toggle between adjusting opposite ends of the ruler. 3. Otherwise, repeat the previous mouse action (equivalent to pressing the BACKSPACE key, or clicking the hollow triangle top tool-button). By this means you can toggle between any two mouse actions, if you set things up first by using each of them. Simon's idea to add further specific toggle options avoids the need to do this. (None of the above is new in TDV.) The suggestions so far are For half-diamond templates, F9 toggle to F10 mouse action (V-crossing angle, K-crossing angle) and reverse. For gaunt turnout templates, F9 toggle to SHIFT-F12 mouse action (V-crossing angle, gaunt offset) and reverse. Transition curve start mouse action, toggle to transition zone length mouse action and reverse (SHIFT+CTRL-F3, or [ key, toggle to SHIFT+CTRL-F4, or ] key). Slewing start mouse action, toggle to slewing zone length mouse action and reverse (SHIFT+CTRL-F5, or ' key, toggle to SHIFT+CTRL-F6, or # key). F7 toggle to F8 mouse action and reverse. (Shift and rotate mouse actions. Often used together when aligning templates over a background scan.) Further suggestions welcome. Bear in mind that this symbol is visible only while a mouse action is in force. regards, Martin. |

2_170552_020000000.png Somewhat belatedly, I have now implemented some additional toggles. Clicking the hollow triangle symbol on the mouse action panel now toggles these mouse actions: F7 ~ F8 mouse actions (shift position / rotate the control template) SHIFT+CTRL-F7 ~ SHIFT+CTRL-F8 mouse actions (shift position / rotate a group of templates) (or \ ~ / keys ) F9 ~ F10 mouse actions for a half-diamond (V-crossing angle / K-crossing angle) F9 ~ SHIFT-F12 mouse actions for a gaunt turnout (V-crossing angle / gaunt offset) SHIFT+CTRL-F3 ~ SHIFT+CTRL-F4 mouse actions (transition curve start / transition length) (or [ ~ ] keys ) adjust 1st end ~ adjust 2nd end mouse actions for the ruler tool adjust 1st radius ~ adjust 2nd radius for the F6 mouse action on a transition curve template orbit 1st radial centre ~ orbit 2nd radial centre for the CTRL-F5 (or 5 key) mouse action on a transition curve template For all other mouse actions, clicking the hollow triangle symbol swaps back to the most recently used mouse action. By this means you can set up a temporary toggle between any two mouse actions. These changes will be in the next Templot2 update. In the end I decided not to implement toggles for a slew because there are 4 different adjustments which may be required in any order: start position, slew length, slew amount, type 2 slew factor. regards, Martin. |
