Hi Martin I have a little niggle this week on the Forum page the little 'N' which appears when there is a new message in a topic will not cancel even when using the refresh screen button which it did previously. On all the other screens it automatically disappears after I have read the topic and return to another screen. Cheers Phil |

Phil O wrote: I have a little niggle this week on the Forum page the little 'N' which appears when there is a new message in a topic will not cancelHi Phil, Alan, Hmm. I have logged in as Admin and cancelled them for you. If the N symbols fail to clear, you can clear them manually by clicking the link at the bottom of a forum page [Mark Forum Read], or at the bottom of the Club home page [Mark All Forums Read]. There are two different N symbols. The one with a white N on an orange background appears alongside a topic in the topics list when the topic contains messages which you have not read. The one with an orange N on a white background appears alongside a forum in the forums list when the forum contains topics which contain messages which you have not read. If this N fails to clear after reading a topic, it means that there is another topic in the same forum with messages which you have not read. Note that for the above to work properly, you must be logged in while reading messages. If you sometimes read messages on different computers, or while not logged in, the N symbols are likely to get out of sync. Hence the usefulness of the [Mark All Read] links. If your browser is caching the pages, obviously you won't see any change until you reload/refresh the page (CTRL+R). Having said all that, I have occasionally noticed the N symbols not working as expected, although in my case it has been a missing N rather than an unwanted one. We are using a bought-in software for the forum. I have made several cosmetic changes to the scripts, but I'm reluctant to dive in and make changes to the core functionality -- my time is better spent on Templot. An upgrade version of the forum software is expected soon, so hopefully these minor glitches will be fixed. If you can provide a reproducible means of creating the problem, I will forward it to the software author. regards, Martin. |

Martin Wynne wrote: If you can provide a reproducible means of creating the problem, I will forward it to the software author.Hi Phil, Alan, Forget that, I can now reproduce it myself. The N problems have arisen because a few days ago I moved a couple of topics to a different more appropriate forum for them. It seems that if you hadn't read them before I moved them, your N symbol gets lost on the moved topic itself, but appears correctly against the new forum. In other words, your problem is not an unwanted N, but a missing N on a topic which you have not read. You can catch up with all recent topics by clicking the Recent Topics button. If anyone else has similar N symbol problems, please click the [Mark All Forums Read] link and catch up on unread topics in Recent Topics. I will report this bug to the forum software authors. If you ever get in a muddle on the forum pages, remember that all messages can be read in strict chronological order on the old Yahoo group (this link will expand the message texts). You don't need to be a member of the Yahoo group to read them there. (But PLEASE don't click Reply on the Yahoo page, use this Templot Club site to post any replies.) regards, Martin. |
