If I add a platform to the "turnout" side of a turnout, it follows the straight track and not the diverging track. Is this as intended? I'm using 2.06d on Windows XP. Howard Watkins. |

Prototypically it is quite rare for a platform to be alongside the diverging road of a turnout. However, if you do need that: 1. copy the turnout to the control. 2. click tools > make split > make plain track turnout road > on external geometrical radius menu item. If that menu item is greyed out: a. if the peg is on CTRL-0 put it on CTRL-1 (or anywhere except CTRL-0). b. add a few sleepers of approach track (F3 mouse action). c. try 2. again. Add more approach track until it is not greyed out. 3. click geometry > track centre-lines only menu item. 4. click real > platforms... menu item and add a turnout-side platform. 5. if necessary, put the peg on CTRL-1 and shorten it (F4 mouse action). 6. store and background it (INSERT key). regards, Martin. |

Another question on platforms - what is the distance from the end of the sleeper to the edge of the platform? Can this be adjusted? I seem to be getting variable results. In 2mm scale (9.42 track, 8' 6" sleepers) it appears to be 1mm corresponding to 6" on the real thing. In N gauge (9mm track, 8' 6" sleepers) it appears to be about 0.75mm. These are using the latest update, on some previous versions I seemed to be getting the platform edge aligned with the end of the sleepers. Howard. |

Sorry, I can now answer my own question. It is the distance from the RAIL to the edge of the platform that is important, and this can be adjusted. Serves me right for using something for which it is not intended! I am using "platforms" along the edges of track to work out the width of ballast needed so I can cut the cork underlay to size. (This also explains why I wanted "platforms" to follow the curvature on points). Maybe there is a better way to do this. Howard. |

It was recently extended to include a cess function for the ballast edges. However, they still can't follow the diverging side of a turnout*. You need to use the method which I explained for that. Click geometry > trackbed width... menu item, geometry > add trackbed edge and modify group to match, etc., as required: 2_210740_050000000.png trackbed / ballast + cess: The trackbed edges function can now be set to show either the cutting lines for open top baseboards, or the prototypical ballast edge and cess width. Click the geometry > trackbed intent > menu options. The cess infill uses the same colour as the track background: output > output drawing options > track background colour... menu item. To save ink, the cess infill is shown hatched (on printers which support hatching): 2_060536_020000000.png 2_071626_150000000.png The trackbed edges function is available only in detail-mode output. Hi Howard, I have now modified the platforms and trackbed edges to follow the turnout-side (TS) curve. See: topic 2204 topic 2205 This means the method which I gave earlier will no longer be needed. In the next program update. regards, Martin. |
