I have tried 7 times to upload a .box file and a .png image and had returned SQL failure. I have tried opening the .box file in Templot and there was no problem. I also tried to preview the image and again no problem. I have used Chrome and also Internet Explorer and also closed down my PC and re-started it. Still same problem. Could anyone please advise what I am doing wrong? Many thanks Peter |

Hi Peter, It seems ok now. The usual rule if there is a server problem is to wait half an hour and try again. We are currently on a congested server -- Jim is planning to move us soon. A few points to bear in mind: 1. when attaching files there must be at least one word of text. You can't attach files to an empty message (perhaps intending to edit it later). 2. when attaching files there is a size limit of 6 MB. 3. the image gallery can't resize images wider than about 4000 pixels. Re-size them first before uploading. regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin, This is the report when uploading. I tried it again this evening. ------------ Invalid SQL query: INSERT INTO ultra_gallery (user_id, photo_name, comment) VALUES (2184, '2184_071404_530000000.png', 'Scissors for comments \; [Scissors in 6' way.png uploaded 7 Apr 2014]')-You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'way.png uploaded 7 Apr 2014]')' at line 1 ------------ Best wishes Peter |

Your problem is that you used an invalid character in the file name: Scissors in 6' way.png The single quote character ' is not valid in file names. It will usually work on your own computer but not on the web. When naming files for uploading to web sites, use only: a..z 0..9 and underscores: _ Nothing else -- no spaces, and no punctuation marks apart from the dot marking the file type extension. And ideally all in lower case -- web files are case sensitive and it's easy to make mistakes if you mix the case and then forget. File names are symbols, they are not intended to be the title of the contents. If you rename the file: scissors_in_6ft_way.png I think you will find that it will upload ok. And the same with the .box file. You could say that this is a bug and that I should make the forum software check file names, remove invalid characters and display a warning. It has been on my list of things to do for years, but nowadays I can only do so much. Sorry. regards, Martin. |

Thanks Martin. I knew it had to be a fault of mine that's why I posted the message. What a fool I have been and I am very sorry that I wasted your valuable time on something I knew about but had over looked. Very best wishes Peter |
