Martin, I have been using your fascinating programme for a few years now, though intermittently, to see what I could get (in 18.83) and what I couldn't into my 14ft x 9ft space. I have not progressed beyond using it as a sort of more flexible 'click and connect' system where I call up turnouts and track and add them together, although 'insert turnout into plain track' has also been useful. Using this method, I have been trying to design a scissors crossover with B7 turnouts but not at a given adjacent track spacing ( I am trying to emulate the throat at Cheltenham St James arrival platforms). I have inserted B7 turnouts into curved track so that they face each other, and then add plain track to each so that they cross, and then use the 'make diamond crossing' command in the peg align tools menu. This looks at first sight to work but on magnifying the view, there is a small but significant misalignment between the turnout rails and those of the diamond, and there are a number of conflicting wing and check rail images. Your advice would be most appreciated, Ray |

Hi Ray, Scissors crossovers can be troublesome to ensure that all the V-crossings can be checked. In practice you will find that not all track spacings are feasible. However, if you are basing it on a prototype plan in 18.83mm it should be doable. It is inevitable that there will be some rail conflicts needing to split them out on partial templates, but there shouldn't be any rail misalignments. It is difficult to say more without seeing your .box file -- if you attach it here I will have a look at it. The basic procedure to create an outline scissors crossover is: 1. start with a turnout of the required V-crossing angle, and TS track spacing centres. 2. geometry > turnout road exit length > crossover 3. put the peg on TXP (CTRL-5) 4. do > snap to peg 5. tools > make mirror on peg 6. tools > make ordinary crossover 7. do > snap to peg 8. tools > make mirror on peg 9. program > store & background That works starting with a straight or curved turnout, and gets you all the essential rail alignments. Depending on the track spacing, if you start with a standard turnout the above procedure will most likely give you a type 1 scissors, where the V-crossings for the diamond are in the turnout-road curves. However, it is generally a lot easier to construct a type 2 scissors, with the V-crossings for the diamond in extended crossing entry-straights on the turnouts. To do that, start the first turnout by extending the crossing entry-straight, SHIFT+F11 mouse action, but keep an eye on the turnout radius. Then after the sequence above, you can create the centre diamond-crossing by doing tools > make branch track on both of the outer turnouts, and then peg/align tools > make diamond-crossing at their intersection. After all of which you can adjust the check rail lengths, and split out the partial templates needed for the final design. regards, Martin. |

Hi Ray, Click the Browse or Choose button below the box where you do the typing. Then you can find the .box file on your computer. By default it will be in the C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\BOX-FILES\ folder. regards, Martin. |
