Hi, sorry if this has been asked before or is covered elsewhere but I'm just about getting to grips with Templot after a couple of years of practice. I'm currently planning to build Kings Cross Loco in O gauge -MF and if got a copy of the original track plan saved in my photos on the laptop. How can I upload this to templot to use as a plan? I did read through the 'how to's' in the help menu but no joy. Thanks in advance, Paul |

Hi Paul, Welcome to Templot Club. You are not alone in finding the process of importing images confusing. I have re-arranged the dialogs several times over the years but it still seems to cause problems. I have re-done it all yet again in the next program update, which I hope will finally make it easier, and which introduces some new options such as drag-and-drop and direct scanning. Update now available, see: topic 2966 - message 21052 For background maps and track plans: Your model gauge/scale needs to be set in Templot before you begin. e.g. 0-MF. Don't forget this. Secondly, it's preferable if you know the scale of the map, which is usually marked on it somewhere. For example the popular 25" OS maps have a scale of 1:2500. And also that you know the resolution in DPI (dots per inch) at which it was scanned. This information is normally available in your scanning software. Common values are 300 DPI or 600 DPI. Armed with these two pieces of information, Templot can scale (re-size) the map for you, to match your model scale. If you don't know this information, you may need to scale the map manually by adjusting it with the mouse. More about all this at background > add a background image... menu item. regards, Martin. |

Thanks Martin I'll give that a try tonight, the image is saved in my photos but it might be easier printing it off and rescanning so I have the DPI values. Thanks again and I'll let you know how I get on. Paul |

Hi Paul. In Windows, if you go to the folder where your photo image is stored and right click the mouse on it, select properties at the bottom of the list and then Summary tab, click the Advanced button and you will find the DPI figures given for the both the horizontal and vertical resolution. They should both be the same. Regards Tony. |

Well I followed the instructions and it worked, only problem was the diagram wasn't to scale (20'-1") I've roughly manually scaled it but not sure how accurate it is and the quality isn't the best, but st least I've uploaded the plan. Many thanks, Paul |

Hi Paul, A new Templot program update is available today -- version 214a. If you start your existing Templot program it will download the update for you and run the installation. There is a new easy way to add a background image to Templot -- you can simply drag and drop a picture from your pictures folder onto the trackpad. I have also re-designed the dialogs to make the sequence a bit easier to follow, or at least I hope so. This is the third or fourth time I have tried re-designing them over the years. Creating background picture shapes seems to be the one thing everyone stumbles over. Quite why is something of a mystery to me. You can follow the new sequence by clicking the background > add a background image... menu item: 2_230814_100000000.png Read all the notes which come up. regards, Martin. |

Dave Summers wrote: FWIW, I fired up v2.13a on my Mac using Crossover and the update to 2.14a was quick and flawless.Hi Dave, Thanks for letting me know. I tested it on Ubuntu, but I don't have a Mac to try. I'm glad it worked ok. Sorry it has been such a long time since the previous update. I haven't yet prepared any release notes for this one. The existing change-log topic is far too long to have any more added to it. I will start a new update topic in the next few days. regards, Martin. |
