Hello. On Yeovil Pen Mill I've got a single slip (crossing 1: 8 ) on a 45" radius curve. Having read somewhere here, that diamond crossings of 1 in 8 or shallower should have moving K crossings, I am wondering if I should be considering having these on the single slip and indeed it if that's doable / prototypical. Any knowledgeable fellow help me out? Andrew |

Hi Andrew, Yes, certainly you should use movable K-crossings at 1:8 on 45" radius. For a slip it actually makes it easier to build because you don't have to find space for the K-crossing check rails. So easier to build and more reliable running, win-win. Just need to provide the additional point motor(s). Here's a nice pic from Mick Nicholson showing a prototype double-slip with movable K-crossings (flat-bottom): fb_movablek_dslip.jpg It is also a good picture for judging the size of ballast stones -- those timbers are 12" (4mm) wide. p.s. according to the database this is my 6,000th post to Templot Club, no wonder I'm feeling tired today. We started 10 years ago on 11th May 2007 (with 7 years of Templot Email Group before that). regards, Martin. |
