• Nothing below affects the NLS screenshot maps. The API annual subscriptions for the NLS tiled maps expire today. I have decided not to renew them this year. The total cost is over £300. Last year I suggested users might like to donate towards the cost. There were some generous donations (many thanks), but the total fell short of the costs and I made up the shortfall myself. It's a shame because the tiled maps are so much nicer to use than the screenshots, with no restriction on screen size, or battles of wits with the Windows embedded web browser. But until an API is available for the 25" maps, they don't meet most users needs, and as the screenshots are free, it's a lot of money just to have the extra functions of the tiled maps. So from tomorrow the only tiled map which will work is OpenStreetMap. Which is fun, but probably not a lot of practical use for track planning. It is of course worldwide, unlike NLS, so if you are looking only for general scaling and the locations of structures it may help. And if it doesn't you can edit it yourself until it does. 2_302000_060000000.png I will remove the NLS tiled options in the next program update, in the meantime you will get an error message. Just to repeat, this is only about the tiled maps, none of this affects the ability to make screenshot maps from the NLS web site (or any other). cheers, Martin. |

Rob Manchester wrote: Hi Martin,Hi Rob, I have no way of knowing. Bear in mind that each tile is a separate file download from the tile server. A map might consist of a few tiles, or hundreds. A user can go on adding rows and columns of tiles to get the area required, for ever. Even if they then delete unwanted ones, they have still been downloaded. cheers, Martin. |
