If someone has the standards I would be appreciative, by the way I am modelling in 7mm to the foot ,1:43 scaleHi Marc, Welcome to Templot Club. Can you clarify what you are looking for? If you mean prototype drawings for narrow-gauge pointwork, they are hard to find. The "New Irish Lines" newsletter contains useful info for Irish modellers, and it would be worth contacting or joining the Irish Railway Record Society who have an excellent library at Heuston station in Dublin. If you mean you need to know how to set up narrow-gauge templates in Templot, there is more information and a Templot video in this topic: customizing for narrow-gauge It's for 7mm scale 2ft gauge, so you would need to alter some of the settings accordingly. For 3ft gauge I think you could guess at sleepers being 6ft long as a starting point. regards, Martin. |

I've just started designing 3' track in 7mm and have been experimenting. I've found 84" (7') sleepers look more like the pictures I've seen of the prototype. But then I've also seen some very short sleepers which could be about 6'. I'm going to build some short sections to see which looks best and I'll post some photos. I plan to use fine pins to fix code 100 fb to balsa sleepers as a trial. Ian |

I would echo what John M has said - I don't think balsa would be suitable. I would suggest buying ply sleepers from one of the societies and cutting them to length. |

Hi About 15 years ago Steve Sims, with a little help from your truly, built Bleadon a 7mm exhibition layout based on the Weston Clevedon & Portishead railway, the track was constucted using code 100 rail spiked directly to balsa sleepers and turnout timbers. This proved useful as I spent many hours with my thumb nail distressing them to get the run down at heel look. The layout was on the circuit for several years with only minor problems associated with all track from time to time after which Steve sold it. The current owner still takes it out occasionally. The layout featured in an issue of the MRJ back then. Cheers Phil |

My first attempt at scratch built track, a long, long time ago, was balsa sleepers on a balsa base with rail glued down with Durofix. It worked. cheers Nigel |

----- from Alan Hall ----- Instead of balsa, why not use the veneer strips that doll's house shops sell. Tougher, darker - no need to stain some varieties of wood. alan@york |
