Hello, Whilst attempting to research the answer to this query: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=50059 I came across this (rather distant) picture of some interesting pointwork at Warboys staion on the ex GE & GN Joint branch from Somersham to Ramsey (East) in Huntingdonshire: http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/w/warboys/index.shtml The objective seems to have been to avoid a facing lead to the siding that branches away to the left. It would be nice to locate a close-up picture. Regards, Rodney Hills |

Why the "swerve" in the right hand track from the platform towards the photographer? |

John, Re the 'swerve', yes, it looks as if there are actually two sidings to the right of the single track main line, with a lefthand turnout into the road immediately alongside the main line, giving rise to the 'wiggle', with an area of whitish hardstanding between the two sidings. See the web page for truncation and closure dates, Warboys becoming the branch terminus for a while. Definitely one for the 'prototype for everything department'. Regards, Rodney Hills |

Can't find a close up of the trackwork, but I do have this: 53_270658_090000000.png Warboys - GNR survey dated 1901. John Rhodes' book Branch Lines to Ramsey (Oakwood) is silent on the matter, and I've not yet located anything in the GERS Journal either. The line was under the jurisdiction of the GER from opening in 1889 to incorporation in the GE&GN Joint in 1897, and it was in this brief window that the new loop to the goods shed and siding to the cattle dock were laid, and the sidings to the brickworks (1893). 53_270730_130000000.png The GE was the master in the 'prototype for everything' department, and swerves like this were not unknown elsewhere on the system. The LNER took a dim view of many of the GER's trackwork idiosyncrasies and simplified great chunks from time to time, but Warboys appears to have remained intact until much later. |

Adrian, Thanks for the very interesting plans and your comments. BTW - Do you have any info or refs that could help the RMwebber locate any pictures of the centre section of the station building roof at Warboys or Ramsey East?: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=50059 The few view I've located are end-on :-( Regards, Rodney Hills |

I don't think I have anything here which shows either Warboys or Ramsey East better than can be found on the Subterranea site, and this photo suggests to me that the waiting room roof was flat: http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/w/warboys/index5.shtml |

Not worth buying the book for though. If it's in your local library have a look. The photos in Branch Lines to Ramsey, Oakwood Press also suggest, rather than prove that the waiting room roof was flat. Cheers for now John, from 33820 St Ciers sur Gironde. |
