TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

That looks to be a good feature to have.

Whilst we are on the subject of pretty colours, I just wondered if it would be easy to change the colour of something already in existence. The flag showing which side of plain track is MAIN doesn't show up at all when you have a background image like a map or plan. Any chance it could be more visible, please? - but only if it is easy for you to do!

Hi Richard,

You can change any of the colours to whatever you want. :)

The easy way is to change the entire colour scheme by clicking the coloured button at the top left of the screen:

The "bright night" scheme is popular.

If you just want to change the plain track end marker, it is one of the guide marks. You can change the colour of just those by clicking this menu item:

For working over background maps and plans, a better option might be to change to a low-contrast grey image -- there is a conversion function on the background shapes dialog:

cheers,

Martin.
