I was with Phil today and he showed me preproduction test shots of C&L's new flexitrack in both EM and P4 gauges choice of 2 or 3 bolt chairs

GWR modellers are getting spoilt (BR & LNER have always been spoilt)

P4 to the front, EM at the rear. Choice of either 3 bolt S1 or GWR 2 bolt, keys in the chairs and 60' panels with 12" timbers and closer spacing at the ends

All 4 will be available in the new year, as waiting for the sprues to be shot

Sleeper lengths? 9ft would be better option as would suit small branch lines some of which probably kept them until closure. For the few mainline modellers they can either choose to go flatbottom or cut a bit off. I do wonder about the choice of 60ft panels for GWR at least, 45ft would have been better. However looking at the photo I think they might be 9ft and shorter panels can be achieved with a bit of modification. Fingers crossed then.

The trouble is these tools cost thousands to make and a long time to recoup the costs. Where does the list end, plus I would have thought an 00 gauge GWR flexi track would have sold better.

The fact is these are the first GWR flexi tracks and both 2 and 3 bolt chairs have keys, 12" sleepers and altered spacings at the ends

45' panels can be achieved by removing some sleepers, the 60' panel is made up of two halves so take off 6 sleepers from 1 panel

In the past I have preferred Exactoscale Fastrack bases, but the new C&L flexitrack certainly ticks most boxes

00 first should make more financial sense, sleeper length less of an issue too, the trouble is that in P4 especially there will be those who will pour cold water on anything that doesn't meet their own personal requirements.

I doubt if they would buy C&L components.

On a brighter note more and more modellers are turning to EM and P4 but do not join either of the societies. For these group of modellers both Phil's and Wayne's products are a great source of products

The GWR track base may well push a few GWR 00 modellers into changing gauge
Are thick or thin sleepers.

Keith

The new track has thick sleepers, which matches more modern track building methods

However to support those who use thin timbers and sleepers the older thin sleepered range will continue (but not in the new format

Agree with this statement, but its getting better

I had a quick chat with Phil on Thursday and he told me that the new stock of EM and P4 track bases along with the new rail threading tool have arrived at C&L HQ, no doubt in the new year it will be ready for sale

Sorry to revive an old post, But it's a shame it's just for P4 and EM, Would have loved some of the 2bolt in 00 or even better 00-sf but alas, It's make it all by hand or have 3 bolt flexi for my gwr layout :( The other problem is the 00 flexi from C&L doesn't have any key detail on it, I don't know if thats changed in the past few years..

The new 00, EL and P4 track base with the 1.6mm thick timbers has keys in the chairs, also in 60' panels with12" timbers at each end and reduced sleeper spacings at the ends. 00 only in 3 bolt by either main line or single line chairing, EM & P4 2 or 3 bolt options

Damn, if only 00 was available in 2 bolt form! :D

Ah that is good to know, Yes it's a shame its not 2 bolt or 00-SF but I guess that makes it a smaller market and therfor not as viable. I shall have to pick up some of the key'd flexi and see how it compares to my last lot. (I'd still need to make points so I need to match plastic and ply)

00-SF would be perfect, perhaps I have to wait to complete long stretches of branch/mainline until they release 2-Bolt in 00.
Right now I'm building panels of branch by hand :D

Firstly new tools cost thousands to buy, though with new advances in tool design and making have reduced the cost

Next up is the appetite for better looking track in 00 gauge, its just not there. Phil has renewed the 00 gauge flexitrack tooling recently and it sells, but the main market for 2 bolt chairs is with EM & P4 modellers.

Given the state of the economy its got to be wait and see, Phil has plenty of areas which he wants to develop but after a massive effort with new and replacement tools over the past 2 years its time to build back up the development coffers

7 mm flexitrack is now available in 60' panels with 3 bolt chairs, I think 2 bolt may follow soon(ish)
