TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Forgive my smirking face. I use a Mac for my normal (simple) computing needs and wouldn't change it for any money. I keep an old Windows 7-powered PC purely for running Templot (which updated to 2.27c without hesitation, deviation or repetition). I used to use Crossover on the Mac to run Templot but it got to be too much of a faff when a dedicated, old W7 machine does it better!

Dave,
I agree about the Windows 7 machine although I wouldn't bother with the Mac - just do everything on Windows 7 :) How long Windows 7 will be viable or safe who knows....

I do actually own a Mac Mini, and there are many things that I really like about the way Apple do things, particularly the integration with my iPad and phone. What I intensely dislike is the way they force you to upgrade to the latest OS, even though the Mac Mini is woefully underpowered for the newer OSes.

Although the Mac was very good at running Lightroom and Photoshop - Adobe have clearly optimised the software for Macs - I decided to call it a day when I realised how much time I was spending getting Windows software to run on it. A shame, really.

Cheers,
Paul
