  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Access violation on scaled shapes

Hi Martin

Definitely found a bug this time, although it might be a bgs/sk81/bgs3 problem. I've attached the relevant files - I had to zip them as .sk82 isn't an allowed file type. I can replicate the problem as follows:-
  1. Open Templot (no need for any templates)
  2. Open the shapes window and load the shapes file
  3. Modify all
  4. Scale all by 50% (This gives the correct results on the screen)
  5. File => 'save all' produces the access violation error in the attached screenshot. The shapes file is saved as bgs3, but the embedded images aren't in that file.
If I try to save again, the error changes to Out of Memory.

Am I trying to do something I shouldn't be doing? You can see from the filename that the shapes file I'm using is getting on a bit!

Cheers,
Paul

@Paul Boyd

Hi Paul,

Thanks for finding that.

Surprisingly, the problem is not the 2 large images -- it's the 2 turntable circles. I removed them and it saves as BGS3 fine.

Attached below.

p.s. after "Out of Memory" you need to restart Templot to get everything working properly again.

So now I need to nail what's causing that.

Thanks for the report.

p.s. I have added sk82, sk83, sk84 to the allowed attachments.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Paul,

The problem was the age of the BGS file -- an old bug in there (uninitialised field, not converting to BGS3).

Fixed in the next program update.

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks Martin! I hadn’t even noticed that the turntables had gone! I also assumed it was related to the images, bit it’s probably a relief to you that it isn’t!

Thanks also for the attached bgs3 file.

The background to this is that I’ve been a member of the 2mm Scale Association for some time to give me access to bits and pieces for my 4mm scale narrow gauge stuff. I seem to be also getting drawn into modelling in 2FS so I’m revisiting some of my (old) P4 plans which may be feasible now that they would take up so much less space. N gauge models these days are so much better than they used to be! (Quietly ignoring the 2FS/ N gauge scale difference for now!)

Cheers,
Paul
