Adding a collection of station plans

I think it is possible?
I think it would be a nice idea to collect drawings of several stations/yards ect in a format for download with a preview?
Or that users of this forum could "drop" there drawings here for others?
Sorted by country than sorted by a certain time span ~10 or 25 years, depends on the time frame, in some years the changes where following each other rapidly.

A man here in the Netherlands is doing it for years, but only from the Dutch railroad(and before the Dutch railway company)
Up to 180 years back.
It is a very impressive collection, even including very small stations that no longer exists.

That's a good idea.

I have now installed the XenForo Resources Manager, which I think should fill the bill:

This is a good way to keep track of uploads, and search and sort them. Attachments to posts tend to get lost over time in the general flow of topics.

Also for tutorials and user guides etc. I'm still exploring all the functions available, and how best to categorize the likely uploads.

When you post a new "resource" it also creates a new topic about it in the "Templot talk" section of the forum, which you can find at any time by clicking the Join the discussion button.

Resources can be updated at a later time, and members who have elected to Watch them will receive an alert notification about it (unlike editing a post in the forum, which doesn't create an alert).

Yes it would fit the bill.
However (this is my thought) i think it would need more labels, subjects.
This is how i think i would do it:

1: a: Station/fiddle yard/siding/own creation
b: Drawing/close up/overview
c: Or turnout, crossover 3 way switch ect
(d: complete lines/routes?)

2: a: Country
b: time frame(1860-1900, 1900-1925, 1925-1935, 1935-1940 ect)
c: drawing, picture(I hope a lot of grandfathers toke pictures and that they will be posted)

3: a: detail/piece or section of...
b:

4: a copy free or ask permission of the owner.
b:

5: a?
?

?
I think if people are willing to do it this way, the files can be immediately put into the right sub folder or receive there designated label(s)
It would also make it easier to search some things.
For example for the Netherlands:
Country: the Netherlands
Timeframe: 1860-1900
Station: Opperdoes.(Enkhuizen was a interesting one btw.)
Drawing: yes(or pictures)

In share and show are a lot of fine pictures links drawings ect
Or some really nice close ups from real life track work to build your own.

The watch button will work for me, for sure.

Take your time Martin, it is not a payed job or a million dollar question.
After reading my post i must admit there are some things that could possible can go simpler.
And need more labels or simpler.

I want this for years....... from all over the world (only track plans in every time frame) but i still dont know how to start nor I have the time for this...

The problem in creating a classification system is that no two people will ever agree what it should be.

I have created some basic categories for the Resources section which I think should cover most requirements and is probably as far as it is sensible to go:

Beyond that, resources can be classified using the tagging system:

For example you might create tags for Netherlands and 1860-1900 which you could then add to all the relevant items. Then anyone clicking the tags will see a list of those items.

This creates a basic system of classification which can grow naturally to meet requirements, rather than be decided from the start.

Martin,
I think you nailed it all.
Especially on track drawing and if you have the photo's of the track.
They must be together.
No frog is the same and a lot of country's build things on different ways.
For example the safety rails and frogs between the UK and the Netherlands or the (old) U.S.S.R.
If you are a purist like me you will see.

Its on my card to make things more difficult than they should be, until someone shows me a easy path
Yes i intend to think things over and over.

I will give this a go.
I will try to start with some simple things incl fixed distances (imperial and metric) and incl scales

Hi Igor,

Thanks for posting the files.

For some reason they came to me to be approved. I have now changed that for future files (this software is incredibly complicated after the simplicity of the old forum).

I think it would be a good idea when uploading files to say in the description the type of file, PDF, JPG, etc., because there doesn't seem to be any way of knowing what you are getting when clicking the download button. Even better, create a tag for PDF, JPG, etc.
