TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Feeling helpless in the face of such dreadful news, but at least I can post this.

The BBC has launched two new shortwave frequencies broadcasting World Service English news for four hours a day to Ukraine and parts of Russia:
  • 15735 kHz from 14:00 GMT to 16:00 GMT
  • 5875 kHz from 20:00 GMT to 22:00 GMT

Interesting thing is that RT is supposed to be banned, but I have no problem accessing it. Maybe it only affects the broadcast channels.

I have watched it three or four times just to get their take on things, what a jaundiced view.

Genuine question - how many people in Ukraine can actually receive short wave radio these days?

No idea, but still readily available on Amazon here:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0867WSD1M

The BBC obviously thinks it worth transmitting:

Although the best signal strength is in Ukraine, the main intention is surely to get accurate information to ordinary Russians.

Hi Martin,

I really hope the BBC does manage to get through to Ukrainians and to ordinary Russians. It seems to be the Soviet generation in Russia that need to get this info, but the same generation that don’t want to hear it, even from their own sons and daughters living in Ukraine. I’m pleased that the BBC are making the effort though.

I used to enjoy listening to short wave years ago, including the Russian stations. I remember when Andropov died the Russian stations switched to the most sombre music imaginable. The numbers stations were also rather hypnotic, if ever I couldn’t sleep.

An aside, whilst typing this my iPad auto-suggested Russia, but apparently has no idea about Ukraine 🇺🇦.

Cheers,
Paul
