TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I was playing with the tag search and it occurred to me that, what with all this 3D printing malarkey, it might be good if there was a single database (or even a simple table) of the approximate dimensions of the various BH and FB rails available to modellers in all the usual scales. I only have 00 SMP BH and some H0 US FB but I can take a shot at starting it if anyone thinks it worthwhile.

Hi Andy,
In principle it is a good idea. Some posts ( on the old forum ) did contain at least partial information of this type. What do you call the 'usual scales' and assuming you are talking 2,3,4,7 and 10mm scale are you also including rail intended for narrow gauge? There are already some useful tables knocking about for that but it would be good to have the info all together.

Start the ball rolling and see what happens. Happy to add any sizes of rail I have to hand.

Rob
