TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I feel I must admit defeat. Having had a quick tinker with Templot this morning, I cannot see any way to easily recreate this rather interesting formation in Templot. It's a sort of 3 way single sided tandem, well thats the best description I can think of at the moment. Its 2 turnouts (interlaced) with a diamond, so that the line leading to the goods shed can be accessed off a quite sharp curve.

Sorry I don't have a photo to add but there are some out there. I think it needs something like a special diamond formation to be enabled for it to work in Templot.

I have attached a boxfile of the sort of thing I am looking at. I turned the timbering off so that it looks a bit clearer. I think I will just have to give it a try without all the Templot bells and whistles.

Hi Stephen,

Here you go:

The K-crossings came out at 1:8.66 which of course would require a switch-diamond as shown. Which is extremely unlikely to access a goods shed. It was more likely 1:8 fixed K-crossings, which would need a slight tweak to your radii.

Not too difficult. For a better fit I changed the lower turnout to curviform. Would make an interesting exercise for the live screen session I'm planning to do on Saturday evening:

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks, I had worked out that it would be something like that but I have not got as far as checking the radii as the diamond was not a switched one. In any event it is not required for the current project as the original designer did not include it in the plan. It just struck me as possibly being an interesting possibility, which I might just build anyway.

Had a further play, not absolutely perfect but I can use it to build from
