TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I am changing to making the videos with a spoken commentary (as in the live demos) instead of the interactive text format. The first one is about creating an inside half-scissors, which Godders asked about. It's now at:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/inside_half_scissors.php

The interactive format is just too time consuming to record and edit and write the text. Which is why it is many months since I last made a proper one. Many viewers said that they actually preferred the spoken format as in the live demos, despite the videos being littered with odd pauses, mouse fumblings and silly mistakes. For the interactive videos I used to spend a lot of time editing all that out, and re-recording sections if needed. But you can't do that with a spoken commentary unless you record the voice-over afterwards. Which would surely require hours of work to create a script which synchronised with the screen.

So no editing in future. You just get exactly what I record -- if it's too bad I shall just have to delete the whole thing and make another. :)

cheers,

Martin.

I was being a bit defeatist there. It's quite possible to insert some interactive text into a spoken commentary if you wait for a gap in it. Plenty of those in my commentaries. :)

In the half-scissors video I made a couple of silly mistakes, which I later corrected. I have now inserted some notes in the video where they occur. For the video to pause while you read them, it has to be hosted on FlashBackConnect, so here it is:

https://flashbackconnect.com/Default.aspx?id=mfdtbGQi4SW6e_TzW0SJlw2

It is still time-consuming to do, so I'm intending to do it only for mistakes or important additional information. The main idea of course is that all the details should be in the commentary.

cheers,

Martin.
