TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I've been using Templot with Bootcamp on my Mac. Bootcamp is essentially a partition on the hard drive with a licensed version of Windows. I decided to try CodeWeavers CrossOver. I installed Templot in a Crossover "bottle" and it seems to work fine. But how do I point Templot in Crossover to the Templot files on my Windows partition? Or do I copy the contents of templot_dev directory in the Windows partition to someplace in CrossOver? Any tips or help would be appreciated.

@Dave P

Hi Dave,

I don't know anything about Macs, I can only speak for Linux.

There the easiest way to access files from different operating systems is to transfer them via an external drive such as a USB stick.

i.e. copy the files from your Windows version of Templot onto the USB stick. Then copy them from the USB stick into your CrossOver version of Templot.

No doubt there are proper ways of doing it, but the above is easy and quick.

n.b. don't use a CD to transfer the files otherwise Windows will set them read-only in the process.

cheers,

Martin.

HI Dave,

Also running Bootcamp. Martin is quite correct about file transfers.
USB is the only way. While you can open a Windows formatted drive
and move items to another Windows formatted drive you can't open the
Bootcamp partition to do the same.

Bootcamp was a fairly grudging operational software that Apple created
just to encourage Windows users to swap to Apple products. They really
didn't do anything to encourage you to stay using it.

I take it back,

You can now open the Bootcamp partition onto the Mac side.

Should have checked that one before opening my mouth.
