TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about a set of curved points we are making in templot that we hope to export for printing and laser cutting. In this picture you will see that there is a problem with overlapping chairs and would like to know what we are doing wrong or need to set?

Thanks in advance

Hi David,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

You are not doing anything wrong. The 3D exports from Templot are still an extremely experimental work-in-progress, and I haven't yet got as far as doing the special chairs for switches and crossings. The only reason I have included the half-finished project in the released versions of Templot is so that users can tinker about with it and provide valuable feedback. You can read all about the project at:

https://85a.uk/templot/club/index.php?forums/plug-track.34/

The chairs done so far in the current version 233c of Templot are:

REA S1
REA LI
REA PJ

For the next release 233d I have now done REA S1J, and I will be looking at the REA switch block chairs next.

You can omit the unfinished chairs and sockets by unticking these boxes for the relevant timbers:

cheers,

Martin.
