TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Hello all

I thought this might be of interest to some. It's a mechanism for automatically (or semi-auto) deploying detonators to the rail head for signals that were 'on', especially in fog.

I am not sure if that shows the story or just the picture for those who are not members of facebook. I can copy the words if need be (I assume as an educational centre, Didcot won't mind provided they are acknowledged)

Hi Derek.
Yes, it posts OK here. I can read it all and I won't have anything to do with Facebook.
Regards
Tony.
Thanks Tony. That view of 'social' media seems to be increasing, thankfully. I only remain on it for the 'Whitby and Scarborough Railway' group and of course, Craig Warton's cat jokes. (Craig is/ was a member here, so if you see this- why not ask Martin for a sub folder in 'off track' entitled 'Craig's Cat Jokes')

Getting back to the original topic, here is a picture which includes a detonator placer.
Brimsdown023.jpg

It can be seen just behind the front bogie at the end of the rodding run. It appears to be a deeper box than that illustrated earlier. I suppose that if the device was triggered, then someone had to go out and replace the detonators or was there an internal magazine? The location is Duck Lees lane near Brimsdown on the lee valley line. An area that often suffered with fog during the winter months. Although the line was track circuited, no AWS was fitted at that time.
Regards
Tony.
