EMGS web site and forum

Quick reply >
Hi Martin
<snip> Although I'm a member of the EMGS, I'm not aware that they have a forum, and in fact I no longer seem to be able to get into the members' area of the website to have a look.<snip>

Cheers,
Paul
Paul,
I had a message on 24 April this year telling me that my EMGS account had been created. It also said
"The transfer to the new site is almost complete.
Please do not try logging in until Thursday 29th April 2021 as you may get
unpredictable results.
Thank you for your patience"

Not sure if it has changed, EMGS Home is at https://emgs.org/

Hi John

Yes, I had the email, and saw the bit in the magazine about having to reset our passwords for the new site. Unfortunately, despite knowing that my email address is correct with the EMGS, because I’ve had emails sent to it, no password reset email has ever arrived when I click on the “Forgot password” button. I then got distracted so haven’t contacted them yet, but that’s obviously my next step!

(edit - I do make a point of regularly checking my junk folders!)

Cheers,
Paul

Hi,
I didn't need to reset anything, just waited until it was up and running, of course I use Firefox Developer which is usually pretty good at remembering these things

The e-mail that I received included a new password for me to use to gain access, did yours? Did you try to use it? I did, got straight in, for the first time ever as I never managed to get into the members' part of the old site in spite of using the reset password that I got. I just gave up in the end.

From the magazine bit about it (which I don’t have in front of me just now) there was something about not being able to carry passwords across to the new forum, probably for data security, and that’s normal and expected practise. Anyway, I’ll try to remember to have another go this evening.

Er, no, there wasn’t a new password in the email I got!

Actually, looking back I didn't get an email at all, so it must have just been the magazine page I read. The last email I had was dated 4th April confirming an order, and that email was sent to the correct address. Like I said above, I'll have another go tonight.

Hi Paul,
I got an email on 27th April advising me that my account had been created on the EMGS site. The email gave me an auto-generated password. I just tried it for the first time since then and, using my membership number as the login ID, the password let me straight in :)

All we need now is for there to be more items in stock in the stores although this is probably even more difficlut than usual due to CV19 etc.

Hi Rob

I just happened to be in the process of sorting this out! I have never had that email, the last one I had (to the correct email address) was dated 4th April. I have now contacted them, but although the password reset thingy says an email has been sent, it never arrives (I do know about junk folders!!). I changed the email address on my account at least 12 months ago, and I've been getting emails from them to that address since, but I'm wondering if there's another bit of their system that has a separate email database. Nope - entering the old email address also gives an 'invalid email address' message

@Stephen Freeman I've just checked the magazine under the ***** Important Information ***** heading on page 228-20, and it's very clear that password details DO NOT carry over to the new site due to encryption protection, so we all need to go through the "forgotten password" routine.

(...and I'm guessing that Martin will shortly be spinning this bit off to a new topic :) )

Cheers,
Paul

Update - I'm now in, but I can't now remember what it was I wanted to look at once I'd logged in! Still not sure why the password reset emails didn't arrive (not even to the junk folders) or why the email that was apparently sent never arrived. I'm assuming that something got stuck at Apple as a result of the EMGS website change, but Apple have now unstuck it. I've found out that Apple "silent filter" emails, which I don't like - if it's addressed to me I want to receive it! (Well, not everything, but it should be my choice what I choose to junk, not Apple's)

Thanks to Steve Young for sorting this out for me!
