TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

This is new info to me. An alternative source to Masokits for etched fold-up chairs. Has anyone tried these?

Only S1 ordinary it seems.

cheers,

News to me as well, although they look very similar to the Masokits chairs. Or they would, if Chris Nevard had formed them correctly in that photo! I should perhaps say that he is a modeller for whom I have huge respect!

Hi Martin,
I have seen them before. I was ordering some diesel detailing parts from PHD and noticed them but I think they were out of stock at the time. I don't remember if you just get the 1 etch for the price quoted which is going to make the track quite pricey with the current prices asked for etched sleeper strip.

However I have just purchased a mini desktop circular saw ( intended mainly for wood and plastic I suspect ) that does include a diamond blade in the parts list. It cuts PCB well although with quite a burning smell - I guess that is maybe why bathroom/kitchen fitters who use a powered saw buy one that has a water bath to keep the blade cool :( I will experiment a little more at some point - it shouldn't be too hard to fit a small container for some water to keep the blade wet ( and cool ). The machine runs off a 24v DC power unit and the motor drives a drive spindle via a toothed belt so a bit of water should be OK.

Yes, I admire Chris Nevard's work too.

Rob

Tried the etched chairs from Masokits, they are indeed Masochistic! The tile cutters with diamond blade and water bath do indeed cut copperclad quite well, the main problem producing strip being that the width of cut means quite a lot of wastage. I use one for cutting out the main parts for turntables, The problem there was finding the copperclad in large enough sheets (still unresolved as far as 70ft in 7mm scale for double sided sheets is concerned - last supplier I tried was out of stock of that).
