TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I'm trying to get thousands of images from the old club forum into some sort of accessible order (without having to deal with every one separately. :( )

But of course I keep being waylaid by fascinating stuff that I no longer remember seeing before. Such as this:

fb_crossing_detail.jpg

Nor can I remember where it came from or who owns the copyright on it. However, I think I recognise that weed as matching others in photos from Mick Nicholson.

With 1957 helpfully cast on the "A" baseplate, someone will know all about this design -- FB track went through numerous designs in the 1950s and 1960s.

1957 was also the year the Pandrol clip was invented, but it was many years before they reached widespread use in the UK.

Notice that the fish washers bear against the fishing faces of the rail, not against the rail web.

Martin.

Hi Martin.

For 1957 that would be 109lb rail, and I think I can see 1956 rolled into the rail to the right of the picture. The fish washers also appear to be marked 109. 110A rail did not come into use until 1959 and was in turn superseded by 113A rail around 10 years later.
Regards
Tony.
