Hello

A few small things still need to be improved, but otherwise it can be seen I think....

You landed on your feet running!
Very nicely done, you will get better over time til you reach perfection.
Keep up your work.

With best regards,

Hello to all.

I have missed a lot since my last visit here. Simply insane!

For filing the tracks I also use the Fast Track parts. They are definitely worth the money. They are also available for double slips. My shown crossing I have created with these parts.

In the meantime I have painted the switches and they look great. Pictures attached.

That I have a laser here, I have also thought about small helpers. Herrausgekommen is a gauge for the track spacing with narrow gauge.

But see for yourself.

I must necessarily more often look in here again. I have missed so many new great things!

Many greetings
Gregor

Looking very good, looking forward to see the rest of your progress, looks really good.
No need to apologise, life gets in the way sometimes, we all are busy and in the need of relaxation.....relaxations is number one, dont forget that.

With best regards Igor and keep going please, looks good

Hello to all,

since a long time I found some time again to work with templot. Simply amazing what has happened again. I am now easily overwhelmed! Laser, CNC, G-Code Settings....

I think I need help!

I already have a laser cutter. I just ordered a CNC milling machine, the only thing missing is a 3D printer.

I have saved my turnouts in DXF and edited the data with AutoCad for the laser. This I wanted to do again, get an error message when trying to save.
What is the reason for this?

Thanks and greetings Gregor

Hi Gregor,

If you are in Germany you may need to edit these to use a comma as the decimal mark 1,0 or just leave 1:

scale_by_error.png

I will fix that in the next program update.

p.s. is your screenshot Windows 11 ?

cheers,

Martin.

Hello Martin,

both have worked! Thanks

Yes, the screenshot is Windows 11.
It's quite difficult to get back into it after such a long break.
I will first read the post "Experimental Plug Track", this is incredible....

Hello Martin,

I have drawn something again. This time I have created a turnout according to my own specifications. When transferring to DXF format, I noticed that the foot of the tongues is not displayed correctly. see picture.
Must adjust anything in the settings?
As a test I tried it with a FB switch, there is the same problem.

Thanks and greetings

Hello Gregor,

I'm afraid that is the limit of what Templot is capable of. The Templot templates are exactly that -- geometrical construction templates for building models. They are not detailed descriptive engineering drawings, especially not in relation to the foot of FB rails, which is just a simplified diagrammatic representation. There are dozens of different prototype designs of FB switch machining, the assumption is that if you are building a model at that level of detail, you know what you are doing and what is wanted. Many modern FB switches use a different rail section for the switch blades, which can ride over the foot of the stock rail, but I don't know of any such model rail sections available, or the different sizes.

Templot is a one-man program (and free). I don't have the knowledge or resources to cover every possible prototype switch variation even within the UK, and certainly not for non-UK designs. But all the program code is available open-source, so if anyone feels moved to add further switch designs, or improve the rendering of the templates or exported files, I would be delighted. :)

Thanks Martin.
It had actually always finktioniert, but is also not a leg break. The lines can be traced quickly. Just thought that it is a small error......

Hello to all.

I know you are already a little further, but I have not yet dared to 3D printing. After I had already bought a laser cutter a long time ago, has now found a CNC milling machine the way to me in the workshop. For the normal switches I have now milled an assembly aid. The pc boards are also milled, of course immediately with all separations. It was a tedious work, because I had no idea about CNC until now.....
Someday there will be a 3D printer!

Greetings Gregor

I must admit to having a slight interest as about 10 years ago I had occasion to build some German type turnouts in HO. Nickel Silver FB rail on Copperclad timbers. A not very good photo is attached of part of it.

Hello,

another small update to the turnouts. After I now also have a small CNC milling machine, and I did not like the separation points in the circuit boards, I have revised the boards and the template again.
This is what came out!

Now it can go on....

Greetings
Gregor

Someday there will be a 3D printer!
I think you will regret it, sorry to say.
In my experience i dont want a 3d printer for track making.
I bought it mainly for model making, i wish i invested the money into a small cnc machine.
A lathe is very high on my wish list.

I am not a person that design and print, i want to feel the materials and see immediately the result.
Adapt when needed.
If aluminium fails i will remelt and recast it...

With best regards Igor

Ps there are looking good.

Hello.

Today I would like to show you my double track connection. Since I have a small CNC, I went a slightly different way! I have milled templates from aluminum for the switches. The inner part of the crossover I have left separately and designed so that you can attach everything. Be it a crossover or a double-slip......

Have fun looking

Hello,

I agree with you Igor, it's nice to have a CNC milling machine!

I have the point building tools from Fast Track here, but of course not for all angles. As filing the profiles by hand is not so nice, something else had to be found. I also have a small circular saw to which you can attach a sanding disc. Now I milled my form for sanding the profiles out of leftover pieces of aluminium. For this, a groove was milled in the angle of the frogs, or the angle for the crossover. The remnants should have quite an angle so that they can be placed against the fence of the circular saw.
Here are a few pictures, so I think it is easier to explain....

Cheers
Gregor

Nice, i have a simuleer set up, but than with a belt sander (pro really heavy duty).
But to make jigs for a fixed angle, that had not crossed my mind jet.
I do everything by eye.

I am thinking to copy your setup! wel done Gregor!
And so we plough on to perfection, thanks for the idea.

With best regards Igor

I was also a bit busy and finished my crossing today.

I stained the wooden sleepers this time.

The turnouts in the foreground are TT turnouts from Tillig.
