TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

    For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

    The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

    Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

how to scan a very big drawing.(Amsterdam Cs track plan 1936)

Quick reply >
Just like the title is saying...BUT
yes i know: i can fold and i know how to...
But is there a way that i can scan a 240 cm by 42 cm with a just a4 scanner and put it together like one scan?

I would like to scan the original!!!!! drawing of the Amsterdam central station from 1936!!! and post it here and use it my self for development.
I have it in a4 pdf scans, after printing i am not happy.
And i am not happy with the fact i have to make a drawing(with soft pencil b2) to get the true scale correct, just a squire 10 by 10 cm and one for the imperial bastards (star wars joke) 4 by four inch...with 1cm increments and 1/3 of a inch increments...

Any solutions? please, btw i am a construction worker/old fashion carpenter so i am not friendly to computers

Thanks for your understanding, reading and cooperation, I am really hoping for a solution.
If no solution, i will post all of the a4's and you must over lap the drawings for building/constructing your self, i would not like that(also for myself)
With best regards Igor

Ps in the future i would like to add more drawings from that time frame to make it complete from Enkhuizen to Utrecht and Alkmaar in between, but i would like to build Adam Cs alone, nothing else....pre catenary time.

@Justme Igor

Hi Igor,

Templot can do that. Scan the original in sections, making sure that there is a wide overlap with each one. You can then align the multiple scans by temporarily making the top one transparent. Then use the crop/combine function to create a single picture shape from all of them. It can be saved as a BGS3 file for use in Templot, or exported as a separate image file.

@Justme Igor

p.s. Igor. How to align map scans:

aligning_maps.png

Important:

1. after aligning a scan, switch off the transparency. Your system is likely to stop responding if you have several large bitmaps all set transparent -- deep zooming won't work, and the screen response will be much slower. Setting an image transparent is intended to be a temporary function.

2. if you have several large scans, after aligning each one you can switch it off from the screen by unticking the show on trackpad tickbox. This will make the screen response and zooming much faster for the next ones. Note that the crop/combine function will still work, even if the images are not being shown on the screen -- it works on the images in memory, not the screen display.

Martin.
