Large Same Sided Tandem & Irregular Diamond Slips

Quick reply >
I've spent the past couple of days creating the first draft of the layout for Princes Risborough but I've come to a halt with the tandem.

I'm having a bit of difficulty when using the make single sided tandem function, possibly due to the position of the final crossing vee being so far beyond the other two. I can't for the life of me remember how to do it manually either. It is possible that there are actually two turnouts involved here, but the second pair of switches would likely conflict with the crossing vee of the first, hence the tandem.

Any ideas?

I also have a ladder of irregular diamonds due to the curvature which require single slips throughout. Again, I can't remember or find how to do these manually. Any ideas?

Many thanks.

Pretty sure they were two separate turnouts. Single Slips, as far as I know you have to start with an irregular diamond and use partial templates, time-consuming but not impossible.

Hi Michael,

It seems to fit ok with two separate turnouts, unless I'm missing something? I downloaded the 1919 map and all the marked toe positions match. The rails don't match very well, but that may be the OS. Usually the toe positions can be relied on, and they tend to survive track renewals to avoid modifying the rodding.

Turnouts from the south are C-9 RH regular, C-9 RH regular, C-11 RH curviform. Remaining tracks unmodified from your file. Box file attached.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin, many thanks for that. I wasn't too sure to begin with as there was only one toe position visible on the map.

This is the first time I've touched Templot for a few years so I'm slowly finding my way again. Going to give the video a watch and see if I can get those slips added in.

Once this is all done it's over to the first paper plan to see what needs to change to make it all fit in the space available. The joys of making plans for other people's layouts eh?

Slightly concerned about the prospect of having to tighten the curvature through the ladder as those crossing angles could get rather sharp...

Many Thanks.

Are the irregular diamonds really that, or are they just regular diamonds curved because that is what the main line is doing?

Hi Keith, @Keith Armes @Michael Woolford

They are irregular and curviform, but not by much, as you can see from the .box file which Michael posted.

p.s. Michael, do not use the make curviform ladder function for the time being, see:

As far as I can see you didn't use it, and the running lines remain concentric.

cheers,

Martin.
