  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

    For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

    The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

    Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Make diamond crossing at intersection problem

Quick reply >
Is it me; for years I thought I had made the above using P>D. Today I have tried many times and failed. It works if I have a curved track and a straight track but not two straight tracks.

Help.

@Godders

Hi Godders,

It's not you. I put a bug in 227a, promised to fix it in 228a, and forgot. Sorry.

It will be fixed in the next update, but in the meantime if both tracks are straight, use tools > make diamond-crossing.

An alternative workaround is to change the radius in the control template from straight to a very large number (at geometry > radius and curving ... menu item).

For example set the radius to 80000000 mm. (8 and 7 zeroes). The background template can remain straight. Making a diamond-crossing should then work. if it doesn't, try a smaller number.

That's a template radius of 80 km (50 miles). Unless you are building a very large model railway, you won't see any significant difference from straight in Templot.

cheers,

Martin.

@Godders

Hi Godders,

I have added an alternative workaround at:

https://85a.uk/templot/club/index.p...rossing-at-intersection-problem.253/post-2385

I have fixed the bug in 228b, but I dare not release 228b in its present state because there are too many loose ends in the DXF export. Which would create a storm of support questions which I just can't handle.

A change you may have noticed is that the intersection of the templates must be visible on the screen. Templot no longer asks you to choose between two theoretical intersections.

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks Martin,
Obvious when you think about it, unfortunately I didn't think of it.

PS radius of 50 miles is a bit tight for my requirements but I'll live with it.

Cheers

Godders
