TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Is it possible to print a map which has been downloaded and saved in images, I have had a good look but cannot see any print facility
@Hayfield

Hi John,

Can you clarify what you want to do?

If you want to print the map behind the track templates, it's easy. Just click this option on the print pages dialog:

print_pictures1.png

And the same on the PDF dialog if exporting a PDF file.

But some things to bear in mind:

1. Templot will print only pages which contain track templates. For a large map there may be pages which do not contain any track. You can fool Templot into printing them by adding a small bit of track template in the corner. If you set it to centre-lines only and make it only a couple of mm long, it will barely notice.

2. Printing map images along with the templates involves a massive magnification of the image. You will need a well-specified computer system, and it will be slow. Be sure to use the standard print quality, and not hi-resolution photo-quality printing if your printer has such options.

3. For some tips on getting a good printed result and saving ink, see:

4. If you want it all on a single sheet of paper instead, click this option before printing:

If you want the map image printed separately from the track templates, it would be better to use other graphics software on your computer which can print images. You probably have half a dozen programs which can do that, including Microsoft Paint. To get the map into such programs:

copy_map.png

Select the map in the list, click the copy image button. Then paste it into your graphics program.

If it is a tiled map, you can use the crop/combine function to convert it to a single picture shape, before copying it.

There are other options to get the map image printed, such as pasting it onto the Templot sketchboard. Ask again if you need details.

cheers,

Martin.
