Matching switches to crossings

Hello all

I know this has been mentioned in the past several times but I can't seem to find reference to the range of crossings for each. I recall Martin's advice to make sure the crossing was no shallower than the switch.

I have a D12 that is showing switch curve radius of 5516 and a turnout curve radius of 5121.62, so I am guessing that is OK It is a little long for the location chosen, but when I try a C12 it comes out as 3840 for both.

Have I got that right and if so, does that mean a C12 is a viable combination?

PS these are RAM. Could anyone remind me how to enter the data directly as CLM, please? I seem to remember it was a case of prefixing it with a letter, but I've tried all 26 and it doesn't work.

Many thanks and best wishes to all for Christmas and New Year. Look on the bright side, it can't possibly be worse than 2021... (although I seem to remember saying similar a year ago)

@Derek

Hi Derek,

Did you try q or Q ?

Note that when using CLM angles,if you do anything which causes Templot to change the angle itself, it will revert to RAM. You should then go to real > V-crossing options > convert RAM to CLM to change it back.

I will write again about matching switch sizes and crossing angles. it's a complex subject. The easy way is to use the F5 size mouse action to adjust the turnout size. Templot will then choose a suitable combination for you:

Hello Martin
I am so sorry. I thought there was a quick reference box somewhere, but couldn't find it. Maybe I'm getting lazy or maybe losing the plot; I sometimes wonder. Q works fine- thank you.

All the best
Derek

Hi Derek,

No reason to be sorry. :)

I can barely remember half of Templot myself nowadays, and have to go hunting for stuff. The most annoying is when I spend a couple of hours writing some new code, only to discover that I wrote the very same thing in 2006 or whenever. That's happened several times recently.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi

Does the attached help? It's a list of "official" switch and crossing combinations taken from BRT editions 3 and 5 I think.

If you need anymore info, just ask.

Richard.

Thanks Richard. Very useful indeed.

I understand now. So I can have a C10 but to be entirely authentic I need to manipulate the entry straight to ensure the turnout curve matches the switch.

The D10 looks far nicer on the plan, but it sits just over the edge of a baseboard. I want to design this micro-layout on one board and make it as simple as possible otherwise I know what will happen- it will be another plan that goes nowhere and I am resisting the temptation of 'just another board' for that leads to madness.

Thanks
Derek
