Minimum Radius

Hi

Can I get a report of all the templates with their minimum radius?

I see I can get a report of all the templates, and separately I can get the template with the smallest radius. But I have some guides and catch/trap points, that have pretty tight radius, and deleting those, to work through the other templates would be a bit tedious. The box file has in excess of 200 templates.

Any format would do, although something I could drop into excel would be great (i.e. CSV/TSV).

Thanks.

Hi Richard,

You can get a PDF listing all the data for every template, including the smallest radius it contains, at:

box_info.png

If you have a PDF editor, you could search or edit that to extract the smallest radius info.

If that's not what you want, could you explain a bit more? Why do you want to delete all the catch points? If you have named them with "catch" in the name, you could use find and group... above on "catch", then save group, then delete group. Add them back afterwards. Or sort group templates to first, then more conveniently edit them out of the PDF.

If what you are asking for is a list of templates, sorted in order of smallest radius, that's not currently available, sorry. But it's a good idea, so thanks for the suggestion -- I will see what I can do.

p.s. the "smallest radius" is calculated from the geometry. Sometimes it is meaningless, for example in a partial template where the curved rails have been omitted, or where the template has been heavily shortened or blanked. It is also not a reliable figure if the template contains any slews, or in a parallel V-crossing if the template has been shortened to exclude it.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi

I've noticed that some of the templates for main part of Manchester Central have quite tight radii, and I'd like to check all of them. I'm hoping some of it's down to the "partial template" issue you mention above. Obv. I can ignore templates where there is a large radius, and just concentrate of those with a smaller radius.

I don't want to delete the catch points, but I thought I could do that, if there's no other way to get the smallest radius template, from the "show cumulative box data" option. I'd not even noticed the "print all template info" above it ... sigh ...

But yes, I'm looking for "a list of templates, sorted in order of smallest radius"

Perhaps I could knock up a .NET program to extract the info from the PDF document, into a CSV document.

Thanks.

Hi Richard,

Version 232b is now on the server with some changes. The smallest radius on the selected template is now shown directly on the storage box, instead of needing to look in the template info:

box_small_radius.png

Also the main road curving radius. For plain track templates, these two figures should always be the same.

The easiest way to run up and down the list is to click on it, and then use the up-down arrow keys on the keyboard.

Also I have added two more sorting options:

sort_by_radius.png

You can sort the order of templates in the box so that the templates with the smallest radius are at the top of the list. This should make it easier to find the templates which are tighter than your required minimum.

The order of templates in the storage box is important if it contains any slips. After making your sorting changes, click the sort half-diamonds to first (back) option (this is not a new function). The slip switches will then be drawn correctly over the half-diamonds on the printed templates.

Restart Templot to update to 232b. Please report any issues you notice with these new functions. :)

cheers,

Martin.
