TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Princes Risborough - NLS Maps

Quick reply >
It's been a good few years since I touched Templot, so getting back into it to produce a new design on behalf of someone else.

I can successfully bring in NLS mapping for the continuous zoomable maps in detailed areas like London, but I'm having difficulty with tiled maps not displaying on the embedded browser.

Any suggestions for stitching together the map from this tile (I've already tried pasting the zoomed view link in Templot) - https://maps.nls.uk/view/104182820

I'm looking for coverage to include just south of the overbridge, to the northern extent of the map (scale is 4mm).

There is also a small section on the southern extent of this map required to cover the switch and crossing work in the north - https://maps.nls.uk/view/104182799

Many thanks.

Hi Michael,

To capture the Find by place maps it is important to do this, in this order, before making the screenshot:

1. click Link to this view (bottom left).

2. move the map around a fraction and zoom it to and fro on the +/- buttons. Make sure you can see the numbers changing on the top address bar.

(Templot is not responsible for the crappy working of the Windows embedded browser).

The trick for aligning several captures is to first capture a lower resolution version of the entire area (i.e. at a lower zoom level), which you can use as a background guide to align the individual higher-res captures over. When all done you can delete it. (Templot automatically scales them all to match.)

When you have made the individual captures you can temporarily set them transparent to assist in aligning them. To remove the unwanted headers, use the crop/combine function. Move each one to one side while you do it. Do that first.

(Temporarily is underlined because transparency significantly slows the screen response and prevents deep zooming. Do one at a time only.)

The bgs3 file for the above is zipped (to fit within the upload limit) below. PLEASE NOTE that I have not done the final alignment, just a quick approximation. Over to you.

Sorry this is a brief reply, I'm a bit tied up trying to deal with the the web sites and forum stuff. Ask again if not clear.

cheers,

Martin.
