  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Problem loading a NLS map.

Hi Martin,

I'm trying to load the Lostwithiel 25 inch to the mile map and I get this

Yet without closing the dialogue box and putting in an alternative location I get this

Which is what I would expect to see, I assume that the problem is with the NLS site, but thought I would check here first. I did think about putting in a tongue in cheek remark, but I decided against it.

Thanks

Hi Phil,

You have rather lost me there. The first map is Lostwithiel, if you zoom in.

After you enter Lostwithiel in the box, you get several options on the drop-down menu. They tend to cover different historical district/parish boundaries.

If you choose the 2nd item on the menu, you get a closer zoomed in map to start. But it's easy to zoom in or out to whatever you want.

n.b. if viewing in the Templot embedded browser, make sure you use the +/- buttons on the map to do the zooming, not the usual browser keyboard controls.

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks, Martin,

I have now got that bit sussed out and I now need to get that bit into Templot, the instructions say that I need to click on X in the top right corner, but I can't see an X on the screen.

The galling thing is I have done this before without a problem, these senior moments are getting more frequent.

Thanks

Phil.

Hi Phil,

You are on the wrong screen. :)

Here you go:

Zoom level 19 (shows in the URL) is usually best for working over, so you may need two captures to cover the area you want. Change the map name to make the second one. If you wish you can use the crop/combine function to combine them into one, e.g. before twisting for a better fit on the screen.

cheers,

Martin.

Many Thanks Martin,

I have finally got it sorted, I did a similar exercise a couple of weeks ago without too much head scratching, the only difference was the map wasn't tiled. It would appear that NLS have now tiled Cornwall or at least that part.

Thanks.

Hi Martin,

I have been following your video on Woofferton, but for Witham Friary and I have hit a snag, in that I have drawn a rectangle around what I want, but the crop combine button is greyed out, I have probably done something daft.

Many thanks.

@Phil O

Hi Phil,

Crop/combine isn't available because you have twisted (rotated) the rectangle. Crop/combine works only if the rectangle is horizontal.

What to do:

1. use a large rectangle to crop/combine all the original map tiles to a single large image.

2. twist the large image to the angle you want. (You can draw a marker-line shape on the map to set the required angle.)

3. crop/combine to a smaller horizontal rectangle over the part you want.

I need to add a note about this somewhere, I should have mentioned it in the video.

cheers,

Martin.
