TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Martin Wynne submitted a new resource:

REA Bullhead track drawings - The "Standard Railway Equipment" track drawings from the REA in 1928

These "Standard Railway Equipment" (SRE) bullhead track component designs were used by the LMS, LNER, SR, and LPTB after the grouping in 1923, making components interchangeable between those companies.

It's important to note that the switch and crossing drawings are "typical" and not necessarily an exact drawing of any given prototype. Each company had their own way of using these components.

A printed paper version of this PDF file is available from the North Eastern Association.

Hi Martin,
Do you by chance have any information on Std LNWR permanent way practice? I.E info on the type of chair the LNWR used
and if they were still using loose heal switch's, say 10 years after the grouping ( on the minor roads I mean.
.
I am mainly interested as I believe some of the sidings of my proposed Heaton Norris layout will still have been to Std LNWR practice even after the main roads were replaced with LMS REA trackwork.
Cheers

Hi Phil,

You need to join or contact the LNWRS:

https://lnwrs.org.uk

I believe they have a lot of historic track drawings available to members. A few of them have been posted on here over the years, but may need a bit of searching for.

Here is one of them I found, for 1909:

index.php

Also see this web site for old track info:

https://www.oldpway.info

For Heaton Norris info you could ask on their members forum.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Stephen,
And there lies my biggest problem with the LNWR society, you have to have physical assess to a huge amount of what they have on file.
Given I live in New Zealand that's all but impossible.
I have to agree there getting a lot better at getting info digitized, but there is a long long way to go. Just to compound everything, rest of the world membership is 57 pounds per year, to cover postage of the LNWR journal, even if you don't what a copy there is no cheaper option.
it makes it very hard to justify the cost of membership as it stands. which is a real pity.
cheers

1914 Chairs for mainline - 3 bolt, chairs for Branch lines 2 bolt but diagonally opposite, so you'd have to chop a couple of bolts off a 4 bolt chair.
Turnouts straight cut, some with undercut and some interlaced, 4 bolt slide and checkrail chairs. Do you have a specific query? I suggest that I can give more info by email.
