TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

As you may have noticed, I have added a quick access button at the top of the page to the Search by tag function.

The great advantage of this over the normal database searching for content, is that you can search for 2-letter and 3-letter terms such as EM or GWR.

The normal database search has a minimum of 4-letter terms for searching (as on RMweb). Changing that limit in the MySql database is tricky.

When entering a tag to search for, click the tag which shows up in the drop-down list as you type. If nothing shows up, that tag does not exist so there is no point in searching for it. If you enter more than one tag, the search will find only the topics which contain all the tags -- which will often mean very few. It's usually better to search for one tag at a time.

The disadvantage of course is that you can search for tags only if folks have used them. So when creating a new topic, please take a moment to add a few relevant tags to the topic.

To add tags to your existing topics, click the Edit tags icon on them:

If I find useful topics without any tags I will add a few, but I can't guarantee to do that every time.

cheers,

Martin.
