TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I am trying to download an OS map of Smallbrook Junction on the isle of white. Is it one of those places which is not covered by NLS, or which map is downloadable, I don't mind a map of a pre-junction its just getting the main and branch lines correct. Then I will have to try and make the scissors

Hi John,

Attached below is the background shapes file for Smallbrook Junction, 1896 (scaled at 4mm/ft). It pre-dates the installation of the junction pointwork.

The NLS do have a later 1939 map showing the pointwork, but it is not available as a georeferenced map which Templot can capture, see

You would need to copy and paste that as a picture shape and then scale it to fit. If you set it transparent, you could use the 1896 map below as a guide to scaling it. Then delete the 1896 map. Don't leave it transparent afterwards, as this would make zooming slower and more difficult.

cheers,

Martin.
