TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

A new Templot program update is now available. Version 234c.

Your copy of Templot should update automatically if you restart it and follow the instructions. There is no need to uninstall your existing copy of Templot.

Changes in 234c -- this is mainly a maintenance update. If your copy of Templot has been showing fuzzy on the screen since the latest Windows10 update, this Templot update should fix it. Some other changes and new features relate to 3D exports for FDM 3D printing.

• If you are still using Templot version 227a , the automatic update will fail due to a program glitch. Sorry about that -- please download and install version 234c manually from:

cheers,

Martin.

You may have noticed that I have removed the Templot Video Player and the FBR video format from Templot in 234c. Not because I really wanted to, but it hasn't been working properly in the last two Windows updates and Blueberry Software seem to have lost interest in it.

Fortunately higher image-quality settings can now be used in recordings in the MP4 video format, which means they can approach the lossless quality of the FBR format -- albeit at 10 times the file size for the same image quality.

Also the browsers now support a much easier method of playing videos, which means I can upload them directly to this web site (where they don't include any interactive content). See for example the image quality on the video which I uploaded today:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/get_map_from_the_web.php

If your screen is at least 1600 pixels wide you should be seeing that MP4 video in quite good quality, unlike the old fuzzy MP4 screen videos which used to give me bad headaches every time I tried to watch them.

If your screen is fewer than 1600 pixels wide the video will be scaled down to fit, so the quality might not be quite so good.

If the video includes interactive content such as pauses, clickable buttons, etc., I shall have to continue to post it on FlashBackConnect, but there also the MP4 quality has now much improved if you click the HD > Original option.

cheers,

Martin.
