TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

A new Templot program update is now available. Version 234d.

Your copy of Templot should update automatically if you restart it and follow the instructions. There is no need to uninstall your existing copy of Templot.

Changes in 234d -- this is mainly a maintenance update. Plus some changes and new features relate to 3D exports for FDM 3D printing.

• If you are still using Templot version 227a , the automatic update will fail due to a program glitch. Sorry about that -- please download and install version 234d manually from:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/manual_update.php

cheers,

Martin.

Most of the changes in 234d relate to the exports for FDM 3D printing.

A more general change is that the CTRL+F3 blanking mouse action now applies to plain track templates in addition to turnout templates:

plain_track_blanking.png

Note that in the case of plain track the blanking takes place backwards from the CTRL-1 end of the template. Unlike on turnout templates where blanking takes place forwards from the CTRL-0 end of the template. In both cases this is done so that blanking the opposite end of a template, without changing the timbering, is simply a matter of reducing the overall length (F4 mouse action).

This new option makes it easier to preserve the existing timbering and any timber-shoving when dealing with plain track in partial templates. And when extracting a timbering brick for 3D exports.

Note that the CTRL-1 end marker and main-side flag remain visible for reference even when the track is blanked away from it.

As always in a mouse action, clicking the dimension showing in blue allows you to set the blanked length to a known dimension, if needed.

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

I didn't know exactly where to put it!
Could it be that the values for the flangeway gaps have been changed? At TT 0,85mm is now stored. That should be 0,92mm. Not that the parameters have also been changed for other sizes?

Cheers Gregor
