TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

A new Templot program update is now available. Version 236a.

Your copy of Templot should update automatically if you restart it and follow the instructions. There is no need to uninstall your existing copy of Templot.

Changes in 236a:

Several changes and some new features relating to 3D exports for 3D printing.

Fix the bug forcing Windows Classic style in 235a.

• If you are still using Templot version 227a , the automatic update will fail due to a program glitch. Sorry about that -- please download and install version 236a manually from:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/manual_update.php

cheers,

The automatic update is producing an invisible disabled window, after I connect to the server, and stopping me from uploading the update, or running the previous version.
@Simon Dunkley

Hi Simon,

There is no difference in the update program code from the previous version.

Are you talking about CrossOver on a Mac?

I know nothing about Macs, but I do know that CrossOver is poor at handling Windows modal dialogs. For that reason I included an escape function in Templot when running under Wine. If at any time it gets stuck, try pressing or holding down the ESC (escape) key (top-left on a Windows keyboard). Assuming of course that a Mac has an escape key?

If the automatic update won't work, try closing Templot and then downloading and updating manually from:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/installation.php

cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Yes, Crossover on a Mac, which you probably knew but which I should have said.
Yes, it does have an escape key.
Not doing much as yet, though!

I did try parallels once, but having to reboot into Windows mode and then reboot out of it was a PITA, and rather pointless as I couldn't then do anything else on my Mac whilst in windows mode.

Thanks for the hints: did some trawling around. Several instances of problems with Crossover 22.0.

Re-installed version 21.2, and things are now working.

If you are using Crossover on a Mac, do not upgrade to version 22.0! If you have and it is working, then you are probably lucky.

The concern here is that when Mac-OSX version 13 is released, only Crossover 22.x onwards will work.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I found I have Crossover 22.0.1, which explains my frustration. Now to wait for Apple to release OS 13.
