TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Text on Trackpad

Hi Godders, Paul,

I suspect that text has been added to the screenshot in a graphics editor, as Paul says.

But it's easy to add text to the trackpad, either as a label in the background shapes, or via the sketchboard.

In the latter case it can be complex formatted text, tables, etc., created in the sketchboard editor, or loaded into it from Word or other word processors (RTF files):

On the sketchboard it can be re-sized, rotated, etc:

Note that sketchboard items appear on the background behind the track templates.

Its presence will slow down the zooming and screen response quite significantly, so it is best to switch it off while doing track design, and only put it on when needed to make screenshots, etc. It is switched on and off via the tickbox top-left on the sketchboard.

All other sketchboard items can be similarly shown on the trackpad.

They can also be included on the printed templates, PDF, etc.

In the next program update there will also be the option to add sticker symbols to the templates (12 characters max):

index.php

cheers,

Martin.

@Godders

p.s. I forgot to mention that there is also an item on the trackpad menu for showing the sketchboard items:

Notice also new items for the symbols function in the next update -- I even managed to find a keyboard shortcut. :)

cheers,

Martin.
