TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

I couldn't read it any longer. :(

XenForo refers to discussion topics as THREADS and it jars every time I read it. It is just not a word which is used in the real world to describe a discussion between a group of people, at least not in the UK, and it is illogical -- just as a single link does not make a chain, a single post cannot be a THREAD. It can only be described as a THREAD if there is at least one reply, and preferably several, to have its proper meaning.

The old Templot Club much more sensibly described discussions as "topics". Likewise the popular RMweb forum.

There are thousands of files making up XenForo, so there is no way I could go through every one and edit THREAD to "topic". It may have been possible by creating a new Language file, but not every occurrence uses the Language file.

So I have added a script to change THREAD to "topic" on the page after it has loaded. This works most of the time, but there will be occasional anomalies in the text, such as "winding a length of cotton topic around something". :)

There may also be occasional delays, where you see the words change before your very eyes.

Mostly it seems to be working quite well, and is so much more comfortable to read, at least for me. But if it turns out to be causing problems, I will remove it. If you notice an obvious silliness resulting from it, please let me know and I will see if it can be fixed.

p.s. the script will not change the text in notification emails.

cheers,

Martin.
