TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

There are numerous keyboard shortcuts in Templot. Not all are used very often, but these 6 toggles are very handy.

Dab and dab again:

HOME key = show or hide the control template.
Useful if you have forgotten whether you have stored the template. Also handy if the control template is obscuring something else, such as the ruler dimension.

CTRL+HOME keys = show or hide all the background templates.
Useful on a large trackplan to speed up screen response while you are making adjustments to the control template.

SHIFT+HOME keys = show or hide all the background shapes.
Very useful when working over a background map. You don't need the map all the time and it's handy to hide it while making detailed adjustments to the templates, making them easier to see. You can also speed up zooming by hiding the map, changing the zoom, then showing the map again.

SHIFT+CTRL+HOME keys = show or hide group templates.
Useful to check which templates have been grouped before doing group operations.

END key = show or hide the name labels on background templates.
Often they get in the way, but sometimes you need to SHIFT+CLICK on the label to select the required template when several templates are overlaid.

NOT key* = show timbers bold or normal on the most recently stored template.
Very handy to remember where you had got to if you have been away from Templot for a while.

*The NOT key is marked ¬ , top left of keyboard below the ESC key.

Martin.
