TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Hi John,

Make sure you have set your model gauge/scale first.

Then copy this link:

Code:
https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17&lat=51.65112&lon=-0.99502&layers=10&b=7&marker=51.650333,-0.996086

and paste it into the box 1:

watlington_map1.png

Click and enter a name for the map into the box 2. Any name you like.

3. make sure 25-inch County Series is selected.

4. select Oxfordshire from the drop-down list.

5. click load tiled map.

Follow the instructions. It may take a while for Templot to find the tiles and fetch them from the NLS web site.

After they have loaded, you may want to extend the map area by clicking these buttons:

watlington_map2.png

The loaded tiles are picture shapes in your background shapes. Be sure to save your background shapes before leaving Templot.

If you prefer I will do it for you and post the background shapes file, but I need to know your model scale. :)

cheers,

Martin.

Hi John,

What were you doing when that happened? What had you just clicked?

If you tell me the model scale I will post the file for you.

cheers,

Martin.

It may have happened during the download of the map, But certainly comes up when I try to save the tiles to Templot. I did remove the side tiles both sides and added another line of toles to the top

It was not an issue but I could not turn the tiles by 45 degrees as it always left one tile behind, I can also reload the map using the code you sent me

The scale was 00SF

Thanks very much

The fault said Access violation at address 00853BD6 in module Templot_ 2 exe. read of address 00000000

Hi John,

The error was probably due to a bug in saving BGS3 files in 234b. I have fixed it in 234c, so hopefully assuming you have now updated Templot to 234c it won't happen again. Many thanks for reporting it.

I have today made a new video showing how to load the maps and twist a map to a new angle, it's at:

https://85a.uk/templot/companion/get_map_from_the_web.php

cheers,

Martin.
