This one was introduced in version 206b: If you save a .box file called start.box in your \BOX-FILES\ folder, and don't choose to reload your previous session, the start.box file will be loaded automatically on start-up. This can contain whatever you want -- custom templates, library templates, a default track plan of some sort, default settings for the control template, gauge and scale, etc. It's an ordinary .box file, so you can reload it or modify it at any time. If you don't want to use this feature it's very simple -- don't save a file called start.box. The same applies to background shapes if you save a file called start.bgs in your \SHAPE-FILES\ folder.
