The archivist there has recently informed me that they are know making a concerted effort to catalogue properly all the drawings they have. That's why the above images are in .jpg fromat instead of the usual .png for screenshots. Also Sketchup produces a blank screen in the Camtasia recorder with graphics hardware acceleration turned off (the usual setting). Recording with acceleration on produces a jerky playback which is difficult to edit, but I had no choice. So I trimmed the video down to just a few seconds worth, but it is still 10MB. Here's the video anyway for those thinking of trying Sketchup (Flash format): video: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/fun_stuff/beam_ends_skp.swf Sketchup looks to be a great way to visualize Templot designs, and it's free! There's a problem with the track colouring which I need to investigate, and so far I haven't found the lighting controls. Anyone? I must admit that I don't often use the "Make" function and in fact had to remind myself what it does- what a useful tool! Anyway, the trick worked. What I did notice when shortening the main road was that timbers remain. Is that intentional? Mulling it over, it probably is as there have been a few cases when I've wanted to shorten the rails without changing the overall length or losing timbers. I just need to remember that that function is there! Any excess timbers can be omitted anyway. Regarding the check rails on the turnout side, from a user interface point of view I was just expecting the check rails to be able to extend as far as the visible rails. Now I know how to work around this, it isn't a big issue, but it would be nice not to have the labels disappear! Cheers ...

... why the spacings dialog comes up when you use them. In practice it is most often the TS spacing which needs setting. The MS spacing applies only when making double-track for loops and sidings alongside running lines. Strictly speaking the MS spacing in the UK should default to 10ft-way for that purpose. i.e. in 4mm/ft scale that would be 60.67mm centres (182") instead of 44.67mm TS centres (134") for 6ft-way. However when I did that it caused much confusion because few modellers have space for the full spacings, or know about the prototype requirements. So by default MS and TS start off the same. Those who know what they are doing can then widen MS as needed for loops and sidings. The prototype allows 9ft-way instead of 10ft-way alongside running lines where space constraints make it unavoidable, for example between platforms or bridge parapets. (For those with space for 4-track main lines, the 10ft-way MS would also apply in the centre between the 2 ...
