... printed colour for all the timbers can be set in the output menu: 2_191449_050000000.png At present there is no option to mark individual timbers in a different colour. I suspect that you are not so much asking for a different colour, but for some means to mark individual timbers differently from the others. There has never been any demand for that in UK modelling, although modellers do often scribble notes on the templates. I believe in many other countries a popular construction method is to use soldered copper-clad laminate for just a few of the timbers, with plastic or wood for the remainder. (That wouldn't look good in the UK, at least for bullhead track, because chaired bullhead requires a different timber thickness from soldered construction). There are several clunky ways which you might achieve the desired result in Templot, but none very straightforward or helpful. For example you could duplicate a template, set a marker colour on the lower one, and then omit some timbers on the upper template in the shove timber functions so that the coloured ones from ...

A good friend of mine is currently working on a new 2mm Finescale layout, and while he's dabbled with Templot for a while now, I am fairly new. He has shown me the basics and how he does things but when it came to doing the proper plans for building his track I found myself saying of I'll do that so I can learn more about Templot! That has brought a few questions, and while I am not expecting a step-by-step hand holding, and pointers as to where to look for the answers would be appreciated. I've had a good wander though this forum in recent days, but these are still outstanding. 1) when drawing double track curves and using the 'make double track' option is there any way to make sure the spacing between tracks is right and coaches won't hit each other? ... conditions are met. These conditions are not arbitrary limitations imposed by Templot, they result from the mathematics of a clothoid curve (Euler's Spiral): 1. the templates must not be concentric (parallel). So for example it is not possible to create a transition between the inner and outer tracks in curved double track. Use a slew for that instead, or a simple link. 2. in a C-curve transition there must be a significant difference in radius between the two templates. Significant means more than a few mm. Otherwise you will get at best a wiggly transition curve, or at worst the infamous "matchsticks and broken glass" effect across the entire screen. (For S-curve transitions the radii can be equal.) This also means that it is not possible to create a transition curve between two straight templates. Only one of them can be straight. Insert a third curved template between them, and make two transition links to/from it. 3. most important, the two curves must not intersect ( ...

I've been chasing trains. Visited our daughter in California then the Durango& Silverton in Colorado. I have pics, including some details of a turnout. Where might there be a good place to park them? After that I intercepted UP's restored Big Boy as it returned to Cheyenne. I've made a few changes and will post an update in a bit. As I already have a lot of SMP track the turnouts will be printed to 00-SF. Originally I was going to make the layout multi-level but decided against it. In the best Hornby-Dublo tradition it will basically a double track circuit with reversing loop capability. The double-junction feeds to terminus on the inside of the double track circuit. The original plan- on a curve- had some slightly 'curvy linear' sidings which I couldn't see how to replicate. I found ways to add track but it doesn't flow as I hoped. I also tried using curviform V crossings- but this didn't seem to help. Really I'm quite pleased with the outcome as my first try but I would be delighted if somebody more experienced might have a few minutes to cast an eye over the outcome please? I've also attached my scan which is obviously copyrighted to OS- I doubt they'll mind too much as it's for educational purposes and a very old map. If you look at my other thread running on here Martin has copied a map from the NLS (National Library of Scotland) to a .bgs file that can then be copied to Templot and set to whatever scale and gauge you want. I've just been tinkering with the above plan over the last day or so and have got the basics laid out, it's a case of a bit of timber shoving and a few re-alignments. I'll post a box file of it on here later to show you the rough copy. Most of it has been done using the "make mirror on peg" function, "adjust to length", "curve" and "size" for turnouts. In my case the original Frank Dyer plan(drawn in about 1978) would not transfer directly to templot as Frank used "train set" geometry for the pointwork and some would end up very short radius points.
