I seem to find myself drawing up all these layout plans which won't ever get built Anyway, I have recently started the switch from OO to P4. I have built track including points before and find that I am now capable of moving it on a little. The plan which I have attached is not perfect but will more than likely be the finished article. I still need to shove a few timbers. The layout will be a depot accessed from the mainline via a straight bit of line which passes under a motorway bridge. The motorway bridge will act as the scenic break so I don't have to model the straight line with the junction to the mainline. To the left where the three roads are will be a large 3 road shed. I will be using two of the Pikestuff sheds for this as I have used these kits before and they are great. I will be adding structural detail inside however. The ...

... , I am using the usa_style_turnouts box file as my base. In it are representations of US style turnouts and I wish to base ALL my turnouts on the #5 in this file. So the inevitable question is.... when I DO select the "insert turnout into plain track" option, can I have it insert my base #5 turnout and not one Templot decides to insert? Do I need to somehow make my #5 turnout the control template, if so how? I know there are a few noob questions here but hopefully someone can assist while I go figure out how to make S curves to insert the turnouts into... But, being a computer numpty and having a short memory span for things techy doesn't help. I still can't work out how to move the red peg thingy from one bit of track to another. Do I have to save every template as I perfect it then move along to the next bit? So, went abroad this week for a few days away, took laptop with Templot installed and sat down and watched the video, something simple, how to make an ovel. Do you think I could do it? No. Every time I get to the bit where it says "enter swing angle" or similar to get the 180degree curve, that particular bit does not crop up on my screen. I'm at a loss! After some six weeks, and much negotiation, since my visit to BCL, I have finally managed to get them to copy the 1921 plan, and was told only Friday, that the copy has been posted and should be with me in a few days. In the meantime, I started to try and scale from the photo's I took of the plan, but am not 100% happy about accuracy due to many factors. However, the photo's have allowed me to view some of the problems I am facing, so I have been practicing in TEMPLOT trying to produce the right templates. There is no need to use the mouse actions, you can enter the data directly to set the relative peg positions. The video may take a few moments to load. Mouse over it to access the controls. Click the loudspeaker icon to mute the sound if it is not to your liking. Just for illustration I used the p prefix to enter prototype data in inches when model data in mm is requested. (29ft-6in is 354"). The scale is currently 7mm/ft, so Templot converts that to 206.5mm for you. The X dimension to the peg is relative to the CTRL-0 datum position on the template.
