... topic: 3826 A3+ printer posted: 1 Dec 2020 19:16 from: Paul Boyd Good evening all! For ages I've wanted an A3 or A3+ printer but they've always seemed too big or too expensive. I got fed up with sticking bits of A4 paper together for even quite small templates. I've now bought myself an HP Officejet 7110 from ebuyer for not much over £100, it's relatively small for an A3 printer and has a wireless connection which for me is important so I can tuck it under a chair when not in use, with no cabling to unplug. Reviews suggest it's not that good for photo printing, but frankly if you want an A3 photo printed, it's cheaper to go to a print shop! The next problem was paper. A3 copy paper is abundant, A3+ photo paper is abundant, but A3+ decent quality plain paper isn't! Eventually I found a company called FirstForPaper who list Swift paper, and the 120gsm is available as a special size of 13" x 19" (A3+ ...

As others have said there are a few issues with your tandem to fit in the check and wing rails for the middle crossing. Ideally the first turnout needs to be a bit longer, maybe a B-7 or a 12ft switch -7. You might also do better changing to 4-SF (00-SF) rather than 00-BF, as the narrower flangeways make more room. If you can post a bit more of your .box file so that we can see how the connecting tracks align we may be able to find a better solution. For the chairs, the best way is to study an Exactoscale template from C&L. If you are a member of the Scalefour Society you can download some of them from the Society's web site and zoom in to see all the chairing detail round the crossings and switch heels. To fit it all in in 8x4ft I've resorted to a single slip within the run-round for access to the sidings. I've based it on a modified A4 template and it's tight, looks like the checkrails on one side will not fit. Sooooo, is it workable or do I have to start again with a turnout with a more gentle radius? I find that the majority of the time I change the length of the transition curve, from both ends, to overlap the entirety of the two foundation templates and then delete the latter. One click to do all this would save time. And on the subject of transition curves, but possibly harder to implement; would it be possible to release the focus from the acceptance menu? Some TCs are much larger than the underlying templates. When showing the result, the trackbed is zoomed out to show the whole of the TC template and it is sometime not possible to see which of the left or right handed TC is correct without zooming in. Unfortunately you cannot do this until the TC acceptance menu is dismissed. But this is a minor and rare bugbear. Certainly the price of ink and the amount of it the kids get through are no longer the talking points they once were. High street copy-shops seem to be the place where folks now get their photos printed, if they bother to print them at all. Googling "uk plan printing" returns dozens of places offering large-format digital printing from PDF files. Which has obvious implications for Templot.
